I wouldn't be surprised if this question has been brought up here before, but does anyone care about whether people say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

I don't care what others say but I am concerned that they care what I say.

I don't care but I find it humorous that Christians have gotten so bent up about the term happy holidays being used rather than merry christmas.

Really doesn't matter what they say, its their first amendment right.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays. Who cares. It's being pleasant and courteous to others. I think there are over 4 other holidays at the end of the year. Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Years eve and maybe 1 or 2 other in there somewhere. I like the season, the food, the decorations , the brightness. And it's usually not 90 here in Florida.

Im just happy to get an extra day off work. Im not a believer of any religion, it doesn't matter to me what people say either way, I find it ridiculous to make a big deal of of something so unimportant.

With the exception of the actual calendar day, It doesn't ruin my day or anything , to hear "Merry Christmas" - but it's more like getting a sandspur in your sock - it irritates. I dislike the assumption on too many people's parts , that everyone else celebrates Christmas, and there's no consideration for the many others that might not.

Nope. It's a greeting like "Hello" nothing else. No need to make a big deal out of it.

Any excuse for a holiday works for me, and I don't care what people say, "merry christmas" or "season's greetings".

Awww heck... i love the excitement it brings to peoples life. Especially children that are blown away by the fantasy elfs and reindeer and chocolates and gifts. You know i don't like the commercialism. I can't get past it. Its everywhere on any holiday. Christmas has been around forever and under different names. The baby christ seen with the mainger and all the animals. Thats just a story to show justification. I don't care for it, but i can't change things. So heck, i got paid days off for this. Not bad! Bottom line. Im happy without the fear of believing in god and all the crappy politics that came with it.

In recent years I have grown to detest everything about Christmas (especially the commercial side). The season of good will should be all the time. I celebrate the original meaning - the birth of a new Sun - in a non-religious way, for me it's the end of the long dark nights and the start of brighter longer days.
I'm not too bothered about the terminology as it is a cultural thing, like saying 'Oh God', but I do say 'Have a good mid-winter break' in response.

Spoken like a true student.

I used to say Merry Christmas just for the tradition of it. Gave me a good feeling.
Now those jerks have ruined it all for me, trying to force everyone to say that and nothing else....

I only voted "yes" not because I want people to say "Merry Christmas" but because o want them to say "Happy Holidays", which is appropriate for both believers (of all religions) and nonbelievers.

I'll say whichever comes to mind. I don't look at Christmas as a Christian Holiday. It is, in fact, going against God to celebrate Christmas the way we do. Jeremiah 10:1-5 "1 Hear the word which the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel. 2 Thus says the LORD: Do not learn the way of the Gentiles; do not be dismayed at the signs of heaven, for the Gentiles are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of the peoples are futile; for one cuts a tree from the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4 They decorate it with silver and gold; they fasten it with nails and hammers so that it will not topple. 5 They are upright, like a palm tree, and they cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot go by themselves. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, nor can they do any good.”

What is said is unimportant. The fact is that it teaches friendliness to all, when strangers can become friends in moments.

Not at all I love the holidays don't care either way, what people say. The winter holiday is one of the oldest known it is found in almost all temperate cultures, so Happy Yule and Seasons Greetings let us party and enjoy each others company in the darkest time of the year.

I could not give a royal rabid rat's ass less.

By saying Happy Holidays, you are including both Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, but by saying only Merry Christmas you are ignoring the New Year's holiday and for some of us the New Year's holiday is the more important of the two.

I am neutral to the greeting, but I try to be sensitive toward the receiver of the message. I have friends, who really like to hear 'Merry Christmas' so I tell the so. On the other hand I have friends who are Hindu and Muslim, I wish the Hapoy Holidays, tonrespect their beliefs.

I love that anybody is willing to think of me enough to wish me well during the holiday season in their way.

I do not care if someone does not extend holiday well wishes. However, I note when they have not. It tells me something about their outsiderism, or shunning of social convention.

If I know for a fact what holiday a given person celebrates, I will wish them a happy [insert holiday here]. If I don't know what they celebrate, I will say "Happy Holidays." It's more of a case-by-case basis for me.

Grew up religious, don't buy into any of the bs any longer

I think we should all say Happy Holidays. It's all including. I feel that it is selfish of Christians to say Merry Christmas. Yes, I know it's trivial and who is it hurting?. That's just how I see it. It needs to be recognized that they are not the only belief.
