LINK Cover of the New "Atlantic Monthly"

The new "Atlantic Monthly" just came out. For those of you who don't know this periodical is one of the oldest and most respected pieces of journalism in the US.

Founded in 1857 as The Atlantic Monthly in Boston, Massachusetts, it was a literary and cultural commentary magazine that published leading writers' commentary on abolition, education, and other major issues in contemporary political affairs. Its founders included Francis H. Underwood,[3][4] along with prominent writers Ralph Waldo Emerson, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and John Greenleaf Whittier.[5][6] James Russell Lowell was its first editor.[7] It was also known for publishing literary pieces by leading writers.

I just hope we can do the same to VP

Why is it that the most gifted writers, journalists, educators, commentators, experienced government officials, military and DOJ experts, scientists, etc. can all see this and yet nothing is being done? As in many falls of democracy, the intellectuals are killed or made inert so that an authoritarian can take over.

This piece is just one more that speaks to what most of us know already...but to what end?

Unfortunately, this is a thing about democracy that makes it the worst form of government, after all the others. The Constitution has not been drastically changed in 200 years which is a big part of the problem. T. Jefferson felt it need changing every 20 years. Problem is the process for doing so is so complicated + 320+ million citizens all have their own ideas which really muddies the waters.

Definitely!!!!!!!

Not yet.....wait for Mueller.....Pence needs to go also.

Whoever goes, a strong message must be sent. The Constitution must reign not individual politicians and certainly not religious ones.

We definitely need to stop the religious nuts. The new Attorney General Barr is an extreme religious nut. Watch him. @JackPedigo

@nicknotes I so agree. Certainly, pay attention to what they say but also and maybe, more importantly, watch what they do.

At the rate things are going, Mueller's report may never see the light of day.
45 and Pence need to be removed immediately, and by whatever means necessary.

@nicknotes A lot of them are and they place more emphasis on the 2nd amendment than the 1st which is supposed to keep our government neutral. More of us need to be informed, active and join groups that fight for our religious freedoms as FFRF and the Humanist.

Good points FFRF is a good organization.....@JackPedigo

@nicknotes I/we need to push it to get more members from agnostic.com to join (This organization and the Humanists are promoted by the site).

Not going to happen in my opinion. Hope I am wrong.

Impeachment does not mean removing. It is a system that puts the politician on notice. There is a short piece before the main article that even Republicans are seeing danger signs in the unquestioning support of this madman.

@JackPedigo That's true but impeachment can remove him. House bring articles of impeachment against him...then goes to Senate where there is a trial. if the Senate finds guilt - President is gone. If not, as with President Bill Clinton...stay in office.

@Maximai Of course it can mean removal. But Clinton was not removed and Nixon resigned before impeachment removed him. It is a process of law and one can be found guilty or not and the punishment varies.
Wouldn't it be great if the whole country told him, loud and clear, "You are fired!"
