So we have a pandemic of school mass shootings where the

one common element is the semiautomatic rifle, and yet there is a faction of people who believe its either a mental health issue or a lack of religion in our society. And now the same religious faction are "blessing" semiautomatic rifles? Am I the only one who finds this disturbing?

Very disturbing!

As Ron White said, " You can't fix STUPID ".

I agree with you. It's idiotic. I do believe that doing psyche evaluation on teenagers in middle School could help identify a future problem but probably would be pointless if as soon as they turn 18 they can still buy a gun.

It is borne of paranoia and insecurity.

No, you most definitely are not alone in finding that disturbing.

You are not alone.

Only, blessing that made sense was the annual blessing of the bicycles ( don't know if that is done anymore) . Had enough harrowing moments behind handlebars that I could have used a blessing.

The majority agrees with you. The belligerent minority that rules our country right now, that includes God fearing good Christians, rationalize in every way they can to keep these weapons of murder legal. The NRA is relentless, but angry opposition is growing. We shall see how this pans out.

Nope. Here in Florida we had our lawmakers shoot down a proposal to ban weapons like those used in the recent school shooting here, then they turned around and voted to put"in God we trust" in all our schools and pronounce porn a public health menace. Blithering idiots openly on the take.
