Your frame of mind has a big impact on how you interpret information.

During the cold war, a Soviet economic advisor came to the USA to study a capitalistic economy. The story goes that he concluded that capitalism does not work since most of the retail stores were full of merchandise. People back in Russia had to stand in long lines for products they wanted, while those products that nobody really wanted fill the shelves of the shops in a command economy. The advisor’s incorrect inference was based on his own personal experience.

And who is right? It could be argued that the 'worthless' items would be re-marketed, into desirable objects in a capitalist society. 😉
