I did go through that type of endeavor for awhile, a few years, actually. Nothing seemed to have worked, and the "situation" got worse. For me the solution was divorcing the problem, and that worked out quite well. Painful for a long time, but I am happy, and any expended efforts these days respond in positive ways.

I'm sure that has happened to me at some point in my life. I can't think of an example right now.
