Here in Wisconsin there is a lottery for permits to hunt wolf. We apply for the permits & then do not use them. The howl heard from the "conservationists for Republicans" is worthy of a lycan (pun intended). Without wolves or a comparable apex predators, ungulates denude steams of vegetation contributing to silt run off, erosion & invasive species all which ruin streams for trout & other aquatic life forms.

It’s amazing what a difference restoring a single species can make.

A lovely story but wolves are now being trapped and shot in Yellowstone due to pressure from nearby farmers,

Wolf populations have grown quickly, and expanded well beyond the park boundaries. I lived in the Bitterroot Valley- several hours drive west of Yellowstone.
There are currently 5 wolf packs in The Valley. Montana has a hunting season on wolves, but usually doesn’t meet its quotas.
It is a game management issue that will hopefully find a way for all to coexist.

@Haemish1 apparently two alpha females from Yellowstone wolf packs have been shot "legally" out side the park. Wolves do not recognise park boundaries.

@Moravian
Yep - bison are shot every year as they wander out of the park in search of food. Ranchers in the Corwin Springs area worry that brucellosis will be transferred to their cattle.
The conflict of commercial agriculture and and wildlife.

@Haemish1 Same here. Hundreds of badgers are killed every year because they are accused of spreading TB. Now that a few beavers have been released and are thriving they will be targeted next.
