LINK HOW GOD ALMOST KILLED ME: A true story. - YouTube

This video is about why I have a passion for what I do and why I do care about religions affects on people. This is my personal story of how religion almost led to suicide at 14 years of age. Please consider sharing it.

nlike most other mammals we have a very long childhood.
due to this we expect that there are powerful controlling beings that will provide for our every need. of course is our parents, as we get older we realize that our parents are flawed people like ourselves. the need is great the god-shaped vacuum is there, so we create a all powerful parent without human frailties. we can assign the attributes to the God as we see fit. the Roman assigned to their gods based on the values of their society.
the Jews and Hindus selected gods with attributes that reflected their society.
clearly if horses had a god it would look like them and reflect the values of their society.
knowing this does not free us from the god-shaped vacuum, it's still there.
it is my belief we will fill it with something, science, or The voices in your head.

Hey David! Back atcha on the stylish shirt thing! I went to canon city a few times in the 80's when I was at Carson! A fellow soldier lived there with his wife and kids! Don't remember a thing because we drank a lot in those days! Watched your video about when your son was sent to the office. That teacher should be educated about separation of church and state. And fuck the church anyway! I have told my bible thumping southern baptist douchebag brother that my lack of faith should have no bearing on his faith. We are currently not on speaking terms, but I used to love discussing being agnostic with him. It drove him crazy. I think he thought a lightning bolt was going to come through the roof of his truck! I'll have to check out some of your videos!✌

Check out Reverend Faithful, a very cringy charactor that is a reflection I all the cringy pastors I knew and was related to. Sometimes you just gotta laugh at it!

That's a powerful story, David. I can identify with a lot of it as an ex-Pentecostal. Here I was studying for the ministry and god had never really spoken to me. I think it was my parents who made that decision for me. I never spoke in tongues and became aware that many who did were faking it bigtime. In later life I can remember a sermon where the minister's theme was "you are nobody until god has called your name." People were all crying and blubbering like babies over that one. It took a big part of my lifetime for me to realize that there is no god, no imaginary friend. I recall years of running from god, being drunk and in tears because I was not doing what god wanted me to do. I could have been the greatest preacher in the world but I ran away from it like Jonah and my hell on earth was my own private whale. Many times today I hear others say I never really believed, or the problem was that I did not have enough "faith" for the call. Maybe god never really called my name. How foolish.

I mention to others that their perfect god had a plan in which we all got here through incest. Is that why we need him? Why did our god want to kill us for not doing something and then he offered a way out through killing Jesus who didn't do that same something either? Christianity makes such perfect sense. God can do anything but he just does not want to, or it is not in his plan. Do I believe that Elisha's bones brought a dead man back to life? No, and most Christians do not either. They just fake it until they make it.

Well said as always. You have an amazing mind! BTW long time no see, I is always good to hear from you!

Really liked this video, and will share it. But I have had my own brush with death because of religion. I nearly died from early circumcision in a Catholic hospital. I went into shock, stopped breathing and turned blue, a Neonatal ICU nurse team put a couple of tubes in me to help me breath and eat, and I stayed in the unit for weeks. According to the AMA, over a hundred babies die each year due to being cut this way.

At two years old my parents noticed that my hair a nails did not grow and they took me to endocrine specialists, I have been diagnosed with a pan-hypo-pituitary problem (PHP) and I have been on hormone therapy the majority of my life as I don't produce any male (nor female) hormones. I am now an Intersex activist and do public speaking on all these issues.

I'm sorry for your ordeal at that young age and your later problems, but congrats on your good work.

I'm glad to hear you are doing what you are doing. I have found ways to make what most would consider faults into strengths, and I own them to make myself better. It looks like you have done the same. I can get you in contact of many YouTubers that would love to interview you!

Nobody is ever good enough, the ''born a sinner'' thing, is a put down before you take your second breath.

Heck My imaginary friend would not even talk to me now that is a put down!

@DavidLaDeau Exactly. As that song I hate with a passion says, we're nothing but wretches.

@Lilac-Jade Level 8! Your all grown up!

@DavidLaDeau Been level 8 since last fall.

Your story rings true...I wasted my early years trying to equal up to this perfect god’s expectations...thank heavens we are free at last...FREE of any manmade god! All gods are manmade!!

Free at last. Free at last, thank God almighty...Never mind....

I am terribly sorry to hear what you went through. This is one of my biggest objections also… simply the presentation of the narrative on any level. Although you were on one end of the spectrum in terms of how things affected you, the indoctrination at any level can result in deleterious effects. It is truly insidious.

I am very anti-theist (against theism), what a surprise.

Very glad to hear you were able to reason yourself out of that nightmare.

The Bible was very helpful with that!

Religion does not ask you to commit suicide. It gives you ideas. It is up to you as a grown up to sort out what is right and wrong and choose your path forward. Almost all of us came from religion in childhood but chose to leave the bad behind and be freethinkers. It is the slavery of mind, not body. It was not like we did not have a choice. Breaking out of it is up to us.

Every religion I know calls suicide a very bad sin....you cannot even be buried in consecrated ground.

@AnneWimsey Isn't it odd that there is no one passage in the Bible that speaks out against it?

@DavidLaDeau Don't try to find anything. Don't waster any more time. Just walk away.

@AnneWimsey
Whatever consecrated ground is.
