What is the purpose of this site?

What is the purpose of this site? Is it like a dating site? Is it where non-belivers get together to swap stories? Im from the south, or better know as "the bible belt" so to come out as agnostic (or worse) can be very difficult. It divides families or even seperates family. Is this normal everywhere?

Welcome to the asylum. Enjoy your stay.

Some have come for dating. Some have found love here, some
are still looking.

Some came for dating and found community instead.
Some, like myself, have come for community and found it.

You can participate at whatever level you are comfortable.

You aren't the only one living in the South.
I have found that most of the atheists and agnostics I run into
keep their non-belief pretty low-key for "reasons".
I'm completely out as an atheist, and I don't hide it from anyone.
No one has challenged me over it in a really long time.

Good luck to you.

"the asylum" -- you can check-out any time you like, but you can never leave ! 😀

@GodlessMimi making me hungry for Meatloaf

@GodlessMimi no such thing as a former Atheist.....who ever heard of a former mathematician ? Writers like Chronicles of Narnia WAS NEVER an Atheist... selling 3 = 1 geebush jeehobah ghostholes is pathetic gibberish...C S Lewis disgusts me .....further proof xian Webster falsely defines Atheism......we don't "deny" alleged gawds...... our Atheism demands proof from believers exactly what and where these alleged gott gawd gods things might be hidden ....still useless and worthless religious allegations

@GodlessMimi fearless fly joked none of us can leave this asylum but we can check out.......that reminded me of the many alleged former Atheists like Lewis and Josh McDowell who sell bullshit books for the xian crowd.....Ingersoll joked often that bible math 3=1 trinity shit was ripe for humor and I often declare their sacred stupidity = geebush jeehobah ghostholes

@GodlessMimi some asshole just posted "poontang" here reducing women to that old ghetto word for a ho to fuck....I don't reply I just block his ilk.....and he wants believers here to bash them while he plays closet silent Atheist games in Michigan.....I always maintain we are born with a Feminist Atheist nurturing heritage.....the religious violence begins with baby boys and teaching girls to submit to patriarchal lies

It's a community for atheists and agnostics to speak freely without being judged for our non belief in god's...

@Ms_McSteven yes, of course . That will happen everywhere.. Thats why I specified non belief in gods 😋😜

@Sealybobo Arguing is 'old hat' discussion or dialogue is the new learning tool.

I find this site refreshing, because I, too, live in the Bible Belt. It is good to correspond with people who will not get upset that I'm an atheist. Thank you, Agnostic.com! 🙂

We are a community. Some have formed friendships, relationships and love and support each other. We have something for every non-believer -so many groups and interests. Have fun exploring! You can PM people, converse in chatrooms. I suggest you post in the group before you enter a chatroom. People will follow.

For my part, I just use it as if it were a normal message board. Not really a place to talk to folks about their lack of belief - tbh, those conversations rarely interest me - but a place to talk about life with other nonbelievers.

I think it was at one time marketed as having a bit of a dating site flavor - you can see that in the design - but there are a great number of us who are just here for community. Many are from areas as you describe, where not being religious is a real hardship socially.

It doesn't help that a lot of people in your country bray on about the First Amendment but don't have a clue about who wrote it and why.

I concur with your opinion that this is mainly about the community. It's certainly why I've engaged with quite a few people in the short time I've been here 🙂

I came for free donuts. I'm waiting...

I was told there would be cake.

The big secret revealed when you reach Level 8 is-
There is no cake. The cake is a lie.

@Paul4747

You misinformed fool. You don't get the cake, doughnuts or coffee until you reach level 10.

This is a safe space for those who would like a break from religious talk, where ideas can be discussed without apology, and folks can share their wisdom, experiences, humor and wit. You might also find like-minded members in your area for you to meet in real life, whether just socially or for dating. It's basically whatever you'd like it to be, as long as we keep the religious talk out of it, so we can grow in a comfortable environment. 🙂

We serve whatever purpose GOD has for us. His purpose for me is to disavow his existence, point out the absurdities of life , and watch porn. I do as I'm told.

Praise Him.

The purpose is what you want it to be.

Interact with fellow heathens!

This...

You beauty, I hate cats so keep up with masturbation there folks....LOL.

5

Purpose of this site? It is so you can write home about your special purpose and tell everyone what a great time you had and say how you wish the whole family could be here.

In reality this site is what you put into it. It's different for everyone.

Hover your mouse over Learn at the top of this page.

Click on About Us. After reading that, page down to Community Guidelines.

Keep it between the rails now.

I remember right Elon musk has a boat called, Just read the instructions. 🤔😁

Its primary purpose is to spread the gospel of godlessness, and it is set up to accommodate dating as an option.

Does this or any site really need a purpose?
Can it NOT be just a place/site where like minded people can just get together and discuss things, etc?
Personally speaking I have found this site to be a far, far better alternative to Zuckerbook, aka Facebook for discussing, debating and merely socializing with people from around the Globe.

4

What’s the purpose of any social media? Who named it a driveway? What even is life? Lol

No idea, probably the same idiot who names it a parkway, and that's up for debate but generally regarded as a bad idea.

4

It is a place for meeting mostly like-minded people with whom you can express yourself freely. If you are hoping to meet a life partner, that is a possibility.

4

Like anyplace else it is what you want it to be.

Brick by Brick (in UK & Europe) . Plank by plank in US.

4

"It divides families or even seperates family." That is the madness of religion, isn't it?

Well, certainly one of many madness' of religion.

4

This is a broad-church (if you pardon the phrase).
It can be a dating site but be prepared to travel, as distances between members can be large.
It can be a place to vent your thoughts and feelings about religion. Many in the bible belt find this therapeutic
It can also be a place to just hang-out. Without someone bringing up "Have you found Jesus?" and you saying "No, have tried looking down the back of the sofa?"
Explore some of the many groups we have here. Singles/mingles/chat is a good one to start with.

4

We do not believe in Santa Claus in the sky watching us all the time. Or believe in how religion should take our money run our lives and make us miserable.
Welcome and check out some groups.

4

We make our own purpose here.

Sometimes, you wanna go where everyone knows your name,

And they're always glad you came.

No it is only "normal" in the US where the religious have something up their bums. Not even in Islamic countries do they carry on like this. The Imam may and the governments do but the common people just don't.

@Sealybobo 🤣🤣🤣

@Sealybobo So when where you "over there" to be able to say this?

@Sealybobo I don't think you did understand what I said. The people on the street do not give a toss but of course the Islamic Imam are a different story which bit of it did you not understand?

@Sealybobo Tosser.

Agnostic or worse? My family is very catholic, have a mom and 4 sisters, all married all to very religious husbands, all go to mass, communion, etc etc, my dad passed away a long time ago, they all know and knew that I do not believe in any gods nor in any religion, I live in FL as well as all my family, that is also the south. There was one big discussion with mom, dad and sisters when I informed them of my decision, obviously they were shocked by my decision, but after that big discussion, they got my reasons why, no god could allow so much sickness, hunger, disease, and let evil basically run this world. They came with the bs excuse of free will, which made me laugh. Anyway, this discussion happened 30 years ago, I'm 66, I made it very clear to all that if I go to family gatherings, I will not parricipate in any religious crap, Everybody knows I am a non believer in my family, all my family, including aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. Many times one or two have tried to reconvert me, big mistake because I know so much about all religions vs their lack of knowledge of even their own, that I wipe the floor with the ones who had tried (figure of speech only) that after those 2 times nobody dares to try ever again, religions and gods are so easily debunked with their own bs written down in their own "sacred" books that sometimes I secretly beg for someone to challenge me. But outside my family, when somebody asks me anything personal and religious, my answer is always the same, from a friendly "now that is none of your business" to a more drastic " none of ypir damned business." I am not a pariah, I'm invited to weddings, christmas parties, I just skip the religioys crap and participate in everything else.
