I am curious what some of you think. I had a man approach me in the supermarket yesterday morning... to make a slightly boring story less boring I will get right to the point... he asked for my number and I gave it to him... after I agreed to meet for coffee next time he was in town, he "explained" to me that the only cell phone he had was owned by his employer and that when he called me it would show up as Restricted...Aaaannnddd he can't text on it. He didn't offer his number to me.

Am I being too skeptical when I say I think he may be married?

Any guy who gives an excuse for why they can’t take part in something basic like giving a number means he has something to hide. Maybe they wait to see if you will act without doing anything suspicious yourself, but if he’s going off on an entire story about a lowly cell phone that is supposedly not even his... I mean marriage may seem a bit far fetched, but it’s definitely something.

That's pure bullshit. He's full of shit as most men are. You know where men's brains are located. Right??? Like we are not stupid.

I finally got in contact with this woman that lives an hour away.....she looked nice, I was interested in meeting for coffee. I met her on a dating site, (what a joke). I"m not much of a drinker anymore. Anyway.....I texted her, I sent her some pictures of me and my grand kids.....we were texting and then I said, "why don't we just talk on the phone" and her answer was "let's just text for now" ( I went thru this before like last Holloween)....then as it turned out......she explained to me she would talk to me on the phone.....IF I BOUGHT HER A NEW CELL PHONE!!.... you have to be kidding me??? What a loser. Yeah, and she is 61 years old. I went on the last website (POF) date last Holloween, she was 63, had NOT worked in 20 years and her phone had been disconnected and she was ready to be evicted from her place. I have so many stupid stories from POF.....I just want to go to a movie, coffee....talk.....geez....the whole thing has gotten so stupid, I just gave up. I'll go to the movies by myself like I have for years. ha ha ....I don't know what women are looking for, but if they are looking for a "sugar daddy".....first thing, if a guy can afford to be a sugar daddy, they are NOT gonna get a 61 year old "sugar baby"......really.....think about it. They are gonna get a 30 year old....or a 25 year old......MicK Jagger's new honey is 23 years old. Imagine that???
I like chatting on here because I"m obsessed with THE UNIVERSE and why we are here...I'm closer to agnostics than Christians, that's for sure. I was raised Lutheran, but all that crap went out the door years ago. I have experienced some pretty magical things.....let's say coincidences.

Probably married. You're almost certainly a 'dirty little secret.'

To be honest, even when hooking up, I insist on a mobile number. It's the clincher for me that they're serious, and not just fantasising. It's that real life investment, either letting me into their lives by giving me their legit number, or investing a small amount of money in a 'burner' SIM card, and maybe a cheap mobile phone to put it in.

If I must play devil's advocate, then I'd say I've met perfectly decent people who wouldn't share photos or phone numbers because of bad past experiences. But still, invest in the burner phone, eh? It at least shows that you're serious.

If he phones, then ask him outright what the situation is. If you're happy with the explanation and believe he's being sincere, then proceed, but with caution.

@Scoobs I appreciate that. But buying the burner phone/SIM shows some degree of real world commitment. Just $10 on some credit makes it real, rather than just fantasy. If you get a stalker, just bin the SIM and get a new number.

I've had hook-ups via websites where they've just logged out of the website an hour before meeting, and you've no way of communicating. You're left in limbo, wondering whether the meet is still happening or not. I've had ones where there's been a bit of confusion over where we should meet, and being able to text has been invaluable.

So no phone number, no meet, as far as I'm concerned.

I've two garden gnomes, one speaks English and the other speaks Mandarin. You can have both for a hundred bucks. Deposit the money in my bank and give me your shipping address.

If it's not free and clear id stay away from it. Drama is the last thing you want id assume. And if he can't afford a simple cellphone might be something else to avoid.

Married, engaged, in a relationship.... not suppose to be cheating.

What circumstances possessed you to agree to give him your number? Seriously, next time he is in town. Really. Not a good idea!

Let's turn this around: Maybe he just watched "fatal attraction."

Given the craziness of today, I am more reticent to even have any conversation with strange women, for fear of being accused of harassment just for smiling, and saying, "Hello."

"What if she decides i am "the one," and will not stop calling...."

I am not giving my number to strange women who just coincidently are in some of the same places that i go. That's called "pre-stalking."

This is why i have disposable email addresses. I use each one for specific purposes.

Shady at best.

No idea if he's married or not.

I do have a company cell that is not to be used for texting outside of contacts in our enterprise contact list.
The idea is to prevent access to our phones from outside.

This reminds me of a teacher that once worked at our school. He was exceedingly slick, muscular and fit and, I am guessing, highly desirable. He was actively perusing (sexual encounter/s) a married teacher, and often resided with his in-town girlfriend (single woman). He also had his wonderful finance that lived on his farmstead. One day one of the girls found the numbers of the other girls on his cell phone and the fireworks began. Sounds like this guy is trying to avoid fireworks.

I don't know that he's married... But it's deffintely sketchy...

1

I never hand out my number to anyone.

MARRIED!

1

Yes very likely he is married. He says he has not a business phone.....and he text. Also he took your number and he said yours would come up restricted.

Ive have alot of companies cell phone they careless who calls you. They only care if you excess there data plan. Second red flag who in 2018 doesnt have sometype of phone. So im thinking girlfriend or wife.

He could get a Smartphone for $29.88 at any Walmart, no plan, no contracts, just pay for minutes used. Married for sure!
And stop giving out your number to strangers! strangers at least have coffee first so you can get a feel about them. Unless you like being stalked, ax-murdered, or?

@AnneWimsey That why i recommend women use per paid phone for dating.

Geez, it could even be worse than being just married...he could be up to something flat out criminal. Take care in whatever choice you make in the end.

0

This guy being married could be the least of your problems. He ran 3-4 red flags up the pole during your first conversation, the biggest one after all the excuses was not offering you his number after you gave him yours. Please proceed with caution and pay attention to your guts.

0

I can't possibly say wether he is married or not. It does sound fishy but I was in the same situation. The only phone I had belonged to my employer and I also couldn't text. I was trying to save money wherever I could so I would use that as my personal phone. Don't judge someone so quickly. You don't know their situation. I would still be cautious though.

0

I have a friend who is very cautious about his number getting out, until after he knows someone. For my friend, it's probably some sort of paranoid disorder.

0

IMO if he were single he would have given you his cell phone number without all the drama.

0

Take it as the obvious compliment that it is.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think the sketch-factor is high with this one.
