Fire swept through north Wenatchee today. Stop tossing lit cigarettes.

No structures were damaged and no one was injured. The fire burned only grass and sage. Earlier reports from officials estimated the fire at 150 acres.

At one point there were eight aircraft fighting the fire alongside roughly 100 firefighters. As of 5:30 p.m., there was one helicopter staged nearby.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Here a firefighter adjusts his radio.

Thank you, firefighters!

People from the south east will go out west and have no idea that a cigarette can burn down 3 counties.

I’ve fought fires before. Not fun! Be careful with anything that might cause a fire.

In Spain, anyone spotted tossing a cigarette butt from a car, lit or otherwise, is fined €1,000 and loses 3 points on their driving licence.
Anyone traced as being the cause of a fire can be liable to unlimited damages PLUS a prison sentence.
Since those laws were passed, the incidence of fires caused by carelessness has dropped dramatically.

That is one tough law but that is what is needed to smarten people up

California has been going after brush fire starters for years they nail them hard.
