Post offices are not there to make money. They are there to serve the people. And they have to run losses delivering mail to every home in the US no matter how rural or uneconomical it is to do this. And despite this they still make a profit. That is extraordinary when you think about it.

Maybe but... the PO is not supposed to turn a profit. It is designed to be a public service. The military doesn't turn a profit, SSN doesn't turn a profit and the PO is a constitutionally protected service. Only a traitor would try to dismantle it.

I looked this up to verify the accuracy. There’s a great video in this link that reviews this claim and finds it half true.

The law does require the USPS to prefund retirees’ health benefits (not pensions), but it would apparently still be losing money regardless.

Funding 75 years in advance means funding for employees who will not be born for 30 years or so....what about this seems right, fair, or even sensible about that?
If you want to help the Post Office, right now, just buy $20 worth of Forever stamps, which you can easily do online. If all of us did that, not only would it be a Huge slap in the face for drump & his hack appointee, but the "arguement" that this Post Office is broke would Vanish!

2006... and who signed that into law?

@bingst George W.

Actions on the bill that became the law.

@Apunzelle So it wasn't just Congress. But the blame does rest squarely on the Republican party.
