This should be interesting!!

So there is a thing now in China called 'Revenge Travel'...

[curious.com]

Although it may sound quite sinister, "revenge travel," is actually the opposite. Last week marked an 8-day public holiday in China known as the second Golden Week. In honor of the holiday, Chinese media encouraged domestic travel and spending to boost their economy. In 2019, tourism generated 5.7 trillion yuan for the Chinese economy. Covid-19 travel bans and lockdowns wiped out much of that projected income. To encourage citizens to make up for lost time, the Chinese government crafted a "revenge spending" campaign. The slogan was, “Enjoy consumption for a beautiful life.” Golden Week is celebrated annually around October 1-7. It begins with National Day, an annual commemoration of the October 1, 1949 founding of the People's Republic of China. Depending on the year, the holiday often coincides with the mid-Autumn or Moon festival, when the Chinese believe the moon is at its fullest and brightest. Because the week is one of the few public holidays in China, the celebrations offer a rare opportunity for travel. Established in 1999 to improve the national standard of living, the holiday is traditionally a time for friends and family to visit one another or for sightseeing. It is also a time of significant spending. Last year, domestic tourists spent 650 billion yuan during Golden Week. An estimated 550 million people (~⅓ of China's population) are estimated to have "revenge travelled" during this year's Golden Week—down from the 782 million from last year. Nonetheless, the number is not insignificant. For the first time since covid-19's emergence, the country is testing its containment measures. As millions pack trains and tourist sites, many are watching to see if "revenge travel" is successful, or if it is really the revenge of the coronavirus.
