There is a deep pride in the cajun culture, but it has been so appropriated that it is in danger of being lost to homogenization. The state of Louisiana and the French consulate are looking to teach a new generation the culture.

We are a much smaller group that remained virtually isolated from the rest of America from the late 1600s until WW II, in a small part of of SW Louisiana comprised of French Canadian refugees, native Americans, and Spanish and English frontiersmen.

I live here. What are they proud of?
Although I admit that they seem to take great pride in remaining uneducated and voting against their own interest.
