CATHOLICS

Why do so many people cling to Catholicism? Can't they see the crazy Dogma and how it affects the world like no birth control, not getting married in their church means no communion, sexual abuse and cover up by the church, anti gay, on and on. In todays world, I would think that people would look at this huge mega institution and question it and move beyond it. There are so many Catholics that I know that refuse to see beyond the , wealth, and corruption. Do these people just have to have this in their lives? I don't get it.

In today's world, I think it comes from pressure from family relatives, especially the older ones in non-secular countries around the world. One of my relatives was a nun for several years, and I also have a priest in my family. My mom also almost joined as a nun, but my grandfather who was a freethinker convinced her not to join. Despite the world being more connected to the Internet and all, influence has a big factor in joining. But I think the trend in the long term is gradually going out of the mainstream as agnosticism grows in developing countries.

It's the only place that you can go and see people dress up really, really weird and do really strange things and it's considered normal. If they represent what the kingdom of god is like then they can keep it. it's way too sterile for me and too stuffy costume.

I was raised a roman catholic and, you're right, there's a lot of goofy stuff that goes with it but there's just as much goofy stuff that goes with every faith. If the goofy stuff made a difference to anyone, no one would believe in any religion irrespective of which one it was.

Eventually, I saw the faith for what it was and it drove me out of religion altogether but I had to start thinking critically about all of it and that's what made the difference. Too many believers never apply any critical thought to their faith so they never see it for how ridiculous it really is.

Just my $0.02

I agree that too many don't apply critical thought. This is what baffles me because many are highly educated.

As an ex-Catholic atheist, I can empathize with their reluctance to discard their philosophical dogmas. My experience , particularly on this site, is that those who "reject" their indoctrinated religion cling instead to the religion of woke leftism. In reality, there is no objective reason to choose one over the other. "Faith" in an ideology, either religious or secular, requires evidence to support its validity.

History has shown that capitalism, even with all its faults, (cronyism and corporatism, which can be eliminated), has advanced the well-being of humanity more than any other doctrine. Observe how many millions of migrants have fled capitalist nations to seek better lives in socialist nations. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

That depends on how you define a socialist state/nation.

Capitalism has advanced the fortunes of the Western nations.

Socialism was not an alternative to capitalism. It was a defence against the Western nations that needed to control and exploit weaker economies. Socialist revolution enabled these countries to break away.

The mistake these nations made, however was in suppressing incentives and initiative as an over reaction to the depredations of capitalism.

The better synthesis will be a socialism that preserves some of the incentives of capitalism without the private ownership and accumulation of capital that leads to capitalist crimes.

@Krish55 A true believer! Keep the faith. Eventually there will be one that works.

@PBuck0145

Memes are not historical analysis.

Desperate people flock to the imperialist capitalist countries that are rich because of exploitation and warmongering. Countries like Britain, France, and the USA.

Why do we have so many Filipinos, Vietnamese, Iraqis, Afghans, and Central Americans here? Because of our wars on those countries. I myself am here because of US regime change.

Those memes are merely smug boasting about the abusive power and exploitative privilege of imperialism.

@Krish55 Keep proselytizing. Here's some more:

@PBuck0145

Answering you is not Proselytizing.

You only seem to be able to discuss at the level of slogans and memes.

And you demonstrate the inability to answer to the historical and continuing crimes of capitalism and imperialism.

Here is some more history to answer another of your silly memes:

  1. World War I was caused by capitalist/imperialist competition for colonies.

  2. World War II was caused when capitalism went into crisis and fascists like Mussolini and Hitler were paid by the capitalists to control the working class.

  3. Other direct imperialists wars against countries like the Philippines, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan et cetera have killed tens of millions.

  4. Tens of millions more have died all over the world because of capitalist economic policies that led the starvation, such as the British-engineered Bengal famine that killed 3 million.

  5. Tens of millions more have again died because of regime change and dictatorships supported by the Western capitalist countries, for example in Central America, Indonesia et cetera.

The sins of communism, and there are many, are dwarfed by the much greater and longer sins of capitalism.

OK, so let's see some more silly memes as your response..

@Krish55
Your verbosity shouts about your desperation to justify and cling to a viewpoint which you know viscerally to be incorrect.

Often a meme expresses an idea far more eloquently than does a rant.

Please continue. Give me more usefully idiotic Marxist / leftist groupthink talking points.

@PBuck0145

Citing an accumulation of facts about the crimes of capitalism is not verbosity. Verbosity would be taking one fact and then belabouring that point.

So not only do you post incorrect memes, but you also make incorrect charges.

Throwing around memes and words without thought shows why you adhere to your Trumper slogans. Not ideas but mere slogans, the epitome of groupthink.

Your latest attack now is that you find me too "Uppity" because of my facility with the English language. That was the same resentful charge levelled against Obama by you racists.

It makes perfect sense for you racists to defend capitalism. After all, it was capitalism which created your White Privilege when Europe started conquering, enslaving, and exploiting the rest of the world.

Mark Twain, whom you cite, was an anti-imperialist who opposed America's wars and colonialism. Unlike you, he had a conscience.

Finally, Mark Twain's writing style was geared towards the genre that he wrote - Narrative Fiction. However, while your Trumpist history is indeed fictional, mine is not.

@Krish55
Many thanks for capitulating and forfeiting your credibility by using the "racist" allegation.

BTW, it appears your verbosity is becoming somewhat cumbersome and awkward. Perhaps a meme might better serve your purposes.

@PBuck0145

Not cumbersome to me. Cumbersome, perhaps, to someone who only understands at the level of slogans and memes.

Yes, I totally agree with you. Many of the migrants are bringing more Catholicism in with them also.

Did you post multiple times because Catholics don't use birth control and are similarly proliferating?

Yes...but it was an accidental pregnancy. Lol...rhythm was off! 🤣😅😂😆

I didn't leave the church until my mid-fourties. Growing up we were sent to a parochial school but my dad never pushed the religion. All through life my religion was benign. Slowly, over time, things started to become clear and one event pushed me to abandon all religion. Basically, religion was a small part of my life and I had lots of better things to think about. My late partner, from a Moslem country, was an atheist from the time she could reason. She was a big influence on my present anti-theism.

She obviously was intelligent! I'm sorry for your loss.

@2muchstupidity I think, through her, I have come to be attracted to intelligent and assertive women. It was so nice not to have to read another's mind as they would tell you what they are feeling.

Delete the dupes and then we can talk.

Oops..how do u delete them?

Why??? Does it bother you that much?

@2muchstupidity The submit button lags. Be patient. If you hit it 5 times it will post 5 times. Check after each post and delete any extras. You're fairly new, it's a glitch you've got to watch out for. You'll see others do it in the future and you'll laugh about it.
