ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS AND PERSONS from history is George Eliot whose real name was Mary Ann Evans. She used a pseudonyme since she knew that a woman would not be taken seriously as a writer or anything else by the man biased world. After listening to enough Calvanistic preaching by a local minister, she opined, "I was shocked to find how low the mental pitch of our society must be, judged by the standard of this man's celebrity."

Does this bring any other country or person to mind?

My favorite quote from her is "What do we live for, if it is not to make life less difficult for each other?" Of course the opposite is true. People live to make life move difficult for others.
