The tribulations of the desired have been politicized in the last few years. (Not, as I suppose I had better add, without reason.) Those of the desirous have not; in our culture those tribulations occupy a realm of comedy and maybe art, and not necessarily in the higher tiers of the latter. Sometimes I wonder why this is so.
