Fake News: Lies Kill Lives

Anti-vaccine propaganda is rife in USA, Europe and elsewhere.

It is as contagious as the virus.

It has contaminated the shores of Mauritius where, by sheer coincidence, a vociferous anti-vaccine champion in the social media happens to hold American citizenship. Covid makes bizarre alliances in the remotest of islands.

Anti- vaccine agitation is conducted with an insolent virulence that detests reasonable argumentation.

It becomes necessary to respond to the nonsense overflooding on Facebook and elsewhere.

A few basic truths tend to deflate the bubbles and prevent the pestilence to stink too much.

Disease kills.

Medicine is never 100% perfect.

Vaccines are therefore never perfect.

Yet, above all, in history, science, medicine and vaccines have saved and are saving billions of lives.

Just compare how many lives in history have been saved by prayer, superstition, witchcraft and various types of mumbo jumbo.

Heart attacks and cancer kill.

Science and medicine do not cure all cases of heart attacks and cancer.

Yet, we rush our loved ones to hospitals and clinics when cancer strikes. When their health improves, we thank doctors and nurses.

Why?

Because we know that, more than quite often, cancer can be managed and at times even cured when and if dealt with early enough.

There should be no need to prove the obvious.

On the whole, science and medicine have helped and are helping humanity.

Perfection may not be within our reach but precaution is a real necessity.

Improvements are possible. Another word for progress that benefits the many.
