Does this explain Texas today?

It is believed that an estimated 5,000 to 10,000 people escaped from bondage by fleeing to Mexico, with some evidence that Tejanos may have even acted as 'conductors' on the southern route of the underground railroad. Slavery was abolished in Mexico in 1829, a time when Texas was still part of the country.

That’s interesting, and something I hadn’t heard of or thought about, and that’s slaves going to Mexico to escape slavery.... Makes a lot of sense!!! I like it.....

Lot closer than Canada. I was fascinated to learn that the Mexicans had long abandoned it.
