LINK Louis Wain - 72 artworks; When creativity meets mental illness. (Artistry and schizophrenia. Sadly fascinating.)

I've seen the art for decades. I didn't know the back story until this weekend. What happens in the mind can be so beautiful and yet horrifying, at the same time.) 🤔😒

A friend's brother produces brilliant art, and fights a very real battle against mental illness.

In his case, as well as Wain's, and many others, it appears to be the price to pay for the art.

Making art, can,and has, in some instances brought out hidden mental illnesses..Van Gough is the most well known example..

Was it a hidden mental illness, or was it condition caused (or exacerbated) by exposure to chemicals in his paints?

@mcgeo52 lead was used freely back then..in everything..add in the cadmium based colors, it may have exacerbated it..
