The legend of La Llorona is about the weeping woman who in desperation drowned her children and herself and haunts the river where she did this. I lived beside such a river when I lived in Ecuador and on a lonely night walking home from a late poker game I heard the wail of La Llorona or maybe it was just a couple of cats in heat. I wasn't dragged down into the watery grave in any case. Still a beautiful song.
