Lanham Lake sunrise. Reminds me of New Year's Day.

This far north In Washington State, the sunrise is late in December. Karen and I snowshoed to Lanham Lake above Stevens Pass. We arrived at eleven a.m.

The sunrise was just peeking over the ridge. Glad I got this photo.

Three years ago in December.

Sounds like a lot of work, but a great picture. Thanks.

@dalefvictor

The hike is short and steep. Just 2-1/2 miles one way with 1,000 feet of elevation gain.

The trail goes up a steep valley that is a natural avalanche chute.

We assess the terrain and snow load and say, "Not today."

@LiterateHiker I used to live in Livingston, Mt. north of Yellowstone Park. There was a trail that went behind Immigrant Peak and on one hike an avalanche trail was found. It was amazing both at the volume and the devastation that it produced. The trail of the avalanche came straight down the mountain and collided with the opposing mountain, closing off a stream for a short time. Interesting to see nature producing what it does.
