White House Takes Aim at Environmental Racism, but Won’t Mention Race.

"That approach comes during a decades-long fight over what role race should play in public policy, and what is permitted under the Constitution ... Using race as a factor in decision-making could also create political problems for Democrats during an election year when some Republicans appear to be trying to tap into white grievance ... Some legal experts agree with the administration’s strategy, calling it a pragmatic approach that will achieve the desired results. But some advocates bristle at that assumption ... “When you look at the most powerful predictor of where the most industrial pollution is, race is the most potent predictor,” said Robert Bullard, a professor of urban planning and environmental policy at Texas Southern University and a pioneer in the environmental justice movement. “Not income, not property values, but race. If you’re leaving race out, how are you going to fix this?” Decades of research has shown that the people most affected by environmental hazards are largely nonwhite and poor."

I feel the nation cannot afford to shove 'race' views under the rug and pretend that ignoring that won't affect the quality of democracy.

Question: Which strategy will truly work for disadvantaged communities?

The more politically correct term is 'Environmental Justice'.

That'll be okay as long as GOPs don't know it is about eradicating racism. But I think they already know that because that would be their undoing.

@AnonySchmoose One way to reduce the 'kicking down' of racism is to expose it as such. Actually remediating pollution that disproportionately affects non-whites helps every quality of life, physical, mental, and financial. Cold-ironing is a program that has helped.

@racocn8
I don't understand why Dems don't work in unison to expose the 'kicking down' part of racism. They would get more votes from people of color through organizations that protect them. Not all campaign money sources are from racist corporations, etc.

Are the ModDems seriously trying to win over a shrinking pool of disgruntled group of White men/women? The Rethugs have that portion of the populus already corralled..it time to move on and actually fight for the rights of the people that Actually vote for Dems.

Dem politicians playing nursemaid to aggrieved white people ensures that they will breed more racists to keep their numbers up. If they would only get rid of the filibuster and electoral college. Hope the elections this year bring more Senate Dems, but am not sure it will happen.

They think they're on the side of 'god' whatever that is and will never permit humanity to enjoy a democracy.
