LINK Why is the church failing in the West?

This is a good one

Why are we failing ? The author asks. Well, the liberals have some good explanations, and so do the conservatives, the author says -- though the progressives have slightly better points. But the real reason is is is... the church is not exciting enough!

"If the preaching is dull, if the music does not move them, if they do not feel welcomed, then they are not going to come back. If the Mass is seen as something that the priest does, if the Scriptures are the domain of the clergy, if there is no sense of community, then why come?"

That's why they're going to all those fun loving Evangy churches.

Yes, send in the clowns. There ought to be clowns. Don't worry they're here.

Hey Catholic Church....keep falling.

Too many reasons, too little time. Answers: it's bullshit, sexually repressive, hateful against everyone else, hypocritical, absolutist (except for child molester priests), cafeteria catholics, lying about accepting evolution, politically corrupt, murderous (but manages to be guilt free about that), and so much more. Even as writing this, I learn of a case of a fellow needing counseling because he was molested at 12. How about stealing hundreds of indigenous children in Canada, they treating them so badly that they are, only now, discovering mass graves behind churches. In this country, we have SCOTUS packed with Catholics who can wait to destroy millions of lives.

It was always a house of cards, the people are realizing they are the ones being dealt the bad hand.

“As they got better educated, they were less likely to follow the clergy without question”. That pretty much sums it up. A secular education, free of dogma and doctrine, has always been the church’s Achilles heel and greatest fear.

Yes, at heart they know why their church is failing, but just can't face it. People have out grown their fairy stories and a trick or two on stage won't change that. And if they seriously think identity focused young people are going to buy their archaic catholic family values shpeel, then truly they are delusional.

Having once been a part of all of that I do not see today how anyone could take it seriously. People today that come back to religion are either wanting to marry a believer, or they do not want to break up their own existing family.

Americans like to keep open doors that they've personally closed. It is a hedge against their own convictions and mind. Therefore, they marry someone who "also has questions" and get pulled back into a life they can claim having rejected (having their cake). I see this going on pretty commonly.
