LINK Black Star Wars Actress Endures Hundreds Of Racist Messages - YouTube

Apparently you can't be black and reflect a character in a fictional story. But I think she handled it well.

“Y’all weird” indeed! What the fuck is going on here? Is it because she’s female? I don’t remember people bitching racist crap about Jedi master Mace Windu or Finn? This is so messed up!

Nothing new you just weren't in the loop. Star Wars fans have a deep racist history.

[gamerant.com]
"As Boyega told Vanity Fair, “nobody else in the cast had people saying they were going to boycott the movie because [they were in it]. Nobody else had the uproar and death threats sent to their Instagram DMs and social media, saying, ‘Black this and Black that and you shouldn’t be a stormtrooper.’"

... and it's not just limited to black actors.

"Kelly Marie Tran’s experience, for example. First appearing in 2017’s The Last Jedi as Rebel pilot Rose Tico, the actor has received non-stop hate from ‘fans’ over the character’s role in the film...the online, racially-charged harassment received by Tran led her into a “spiral of self-hate.”"

Samuel L Jackson was a seasoned actor who didn't have social media to negatively affect his career in it's beginning. What some racist might say on his twitter feed is going to be swatted away with his millions of fans who have been with him for decades. At the time of his part in Star Wars he was an established actor with a very deep resume. Boyega, Tran and Moses were and are starting their careers in circumstances where studios watch and react to the views of people via social media. Boyega says that based on racist social media comments his part and the marketing of his character was cut back and Tran suffered psychological distress so the effect is not benign. I like the way Moses is handling it, she seems more grounded. But she was a success in Netflix's "Queen's Gambit" so she's got some good experience to fall back on.
