Societies do not abandon democratic principles on a whim. They do so after long periods of disintegration, disappointment and deterioration of living conditions. They do so when a critical mass of citizens comes to the conclusion that individual progress is an unrealizable dream. In such a situation, it is quite natural that society seems strange, unjust, dangerous, and without moral compass. Therefore, the ideal hunting ground for aspiring "3P" autocrats (who do not rely on force or coercion, but on populism, polarization and post-truth) is not the poor, but the disenchanted. - - (Moises Naim)
It really isn't that hard to see. Problem is, to many self-righteous people are always looking for someone to blame instead of trying to understand why things are the way they are.
Pretty much true. Dangerous times for democracies are piling up at present in that case!
