So they arrested him for using one of his "constitutional rights" to help citizens keep the powers that be in check and then threatened him with imprisonment if his family couldn't come up with the resources to purchase his quasi-freedom. Isn't that what a police state would do, punish citizens for pretending to have rights that the police have to observe?
