LINK Nebraska Judge Rules State's Birth Certificates Can’t Name 2 Mothers | HuffPost Latest News

(I think that perhaps birth certificate forms should have extra lines for both biological parents (if known) and also for legal parents. That would better reflect the needs of our modern society.)

OMAHA, Neb. ✈ — A Nebraska judge has rejected a lawsuit filed by two Omaha women who sought to have both their names listed as parents on their children’s birth certificates, saying the request conflicts with state law.

Lancaster County District Judge Ryan Post said in his ruling last month dismissing the lawsuit that state law requires birth certificates to acknowledge paternity. Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services policy also requires that parents listed on birth certificates be the biological parents of the child, he said.

So, let one file as a father.

That would likely require a change of biology for one of them (to be legal). I think laws should expand the definition of "Parent" so that it's not predicated on the biological creation of kid. Caregiver might be a better definition but parents have rights others don't so the words are important.

@rainmanjr . Just a change of clothes before filing as "father" might suffice.

@OldGoat43 Not legally if the definition of Parent involves DNA.

@rainmanjr . Nobody uses DNA as qualifications unless a test for validity in court cases.

@OldGoat43 Okay
