LINK The January 6 Riot Was a Spectacular Failure of US Law Enforcement

"The security failure that led to the January 6 Capitol riot was always deeply weird. How was it that the vastest, most penetrating surveillance state in human history was taken by surprise? Why was law enforcement ― which responds to just about any gathering at the Capitol as if it were an invading army, and had spent the previous year brutally putting down unarmed protesters ― so undermanned and under-resourced on the day it maybe mattered most?"

It's called corruption. Corrupt President. Corrupt Army and Pentagon (in charge of Natl Guard). Corrupt Christopher Wray who only ' warned ' other seditionists in the Capitol Police. Corrupt or intimidated DC Mayor who didn't yank the assembly permit after the previous night's assembly went violent. Corrupt intelligence agencies that knew something was coming and did nothing. Corrupt Republicans that refused to follow the law and the facts on two impeachments, and still haven't declared Trump ineligible for office per the 14th Amendment.

What is bizarre is that so much of this happened because Republicans in various branches chose complicity even while their mantra is that government should be minimal. But the hypocrisy is strong in their value system, what there is of it.

Same as 9-11, there were people in the fed govt. that knew it was coming and did nothing to stop it, because all the way to Bush and Cheney, the attack served their purposes, both in providing a reason to invade Iraq and get their oil, as well as to boost W.'s image and power after the country rallied around him.

As far as the article's points on support for right wing extremism in law enforcement's ranks, no surprise there, it's been that way for decades. Which is why if the expected civil war comes in in few years or less, started by right wing groups, I know that my side will be entirely on our own, with no protection or help from the cops. So we may as well buy our own guns, learn to shoot and prepare to defend ourselves once it becomes clear the war is about to begin.

What took the Jacobins so long to conclude that?
