I was listening to Neal Katyal and he suggested that some in the DOJ may be rationalizing their resistance to investigating Trump's immediate coterie of coup-plotters. The rationalization is that the next Republican president would simply pardon them all. Again, a rationalization that is an utterly shitty reason not to investigate, but unveils the thinking of DOJ Republicans.
