I have a suggestion to improve the intro questions based on my experience signing up as a new member.

"How certain are you that no gods exist?"
100% = no god 0% = god exists

This is a false dichotomy because you are asking if something is false or not false and supposing an answer of not false is equal to true. A person who says they are 0% certain no gods exist are not saying that god does exist. The parameters require a person to select an answer that is not necessarily true, which may be alienating.

Just my two cents.

Thanks for putting this community together, glad to be a member!

Yes, I can see that it could be considered a trick question to purists. We were just trying to come up with a measurement of the conviction that a god exists or not. Do you have a suggestion that could make it more clear and not be off-putting?

"How certain are you that there are no gods" is what my comment should have said, I apologize for misquoting.

Thanks - we changed it 🙂

I think it would be great if there was a place for us to share our art or our artistic projects with one another. I would also be interested in knowing that I would not be shut down or censored merely because I was posting "offensive content". As an artist there has to be some freedom to push boundaries. I do not like the idea of a painting that I spent 40 hours on being taken down because somebody took a ten second look at it and decided it was indecent. Thank you

We are fairly open to art in photo uploads (I enjoy painting too). Post a few and let's see what happened.

3
  1. Whe a user has more than one pic, give the option to "choose" which one is their profile pic, and not just use the last one uploaded
  2. Add more participation incentives for the different levels
  3. Let users actually add an image to their post
  4. Let users see messages (in messenger) that they've sent and received
  5. Add functionality to the search feature
  6. Let a user preview their post before it goes live
  1. good catch... we should have a little icon for "set as primary"
  2. Do you have some ideas for those? We are thinking to give higher levels the ability to curate content.
  3. oh is that broken? we'll check!
  4. we fixed a bug TODAY where some of the messages were not saved/sent. Seems to work much better now. If you think you sent a message but don't see it now when you go back to the conversation, please resend it.
  5. which options would you like?
  6. hmmm... we had that option but some people forgot to submit it. Perhaps we can make it an optional setting.

I think that there should be a short explanation at the end of the sign-up process to explain how to raise your levels.

Good idea! We'll try to make the benefits of levels more clear. We're still adding features that we hope will encourage people to participate.

Maybe it's a bug, but I can't view the messages I sent to a person of interest. I also have no clue if he's seen them.

Ember Level 4 Dec 14, 2017

I sent you a message, and I can see it. There isn't any way to tell if anyone has seen your messages unless they reply.

2

I have 3 or 4 messages, but when I click on them I just get a spinny wheel... can’t opennor reply. Help??

Thanks for the feedback - we're working on it right now to fix. Your messages are still there...

Should be fixed now - sorry about the inconvenience as we are updating the software daily to add functionality and sometimes have bugs. Now that the site is getting larger, we'll try to be more careful and check site more often during the day.

It would be cool if there was a bit of an arts and entertainment section. I know there are plenty of entertainers who are atheist, and some actually base their creation on atheism. I'd love to see what other atheists create.

Good idea - we hope to have a video section with posts by members and pros.

Coo... I like sharing my stuff too. I have noted that a lot of atheist themed music is most often metal. I'm hoping to expand options. Not a big fan of metal, just not really my style.

I would recommend a date system for posts. I'm new and answering some of these questions but I have no idea how old they are. Is the question from a month ago? Am I replying to someone's comment from last week? I'm not sure. While it is not always crucial to answer the newest questions, or wrong to answer old questions, it does help to know if a thread is dead or not.

The good news is that the site is only about 2 weeks old so all the messages are very current. We are thinking to put dates on the posts or even limit new members (e.g., lower levels) to only recent posts so it feels less overwhelming. Just ideas.

I don't understand why the quickest choice I can make about alerts is every 6 hours why can't I be notified right away and then when I do get a notification I'll look and it's from something I've already seen I thought about taking off the email Feature but then I don't get notified at all where am I missing a setting where my phone will ping when I get a new message?

From your settings page, [agnostic.com] , click on "Pick Alerts" and enable which alerts you want, then be sure to enable the audible ping further down on that page. Any Web Alert that is enabled should result in an audible ping as long as you keep the website open.

I was making a comment to someone about a person being addicted to pand did you see what happened it didn't spell out the word PORN
That's just ridiculous p
is not a bad word. Some might say p*** itself is bad but not the word just like murder oh it didn't block out that word murder is very unpleasant

I just enabled the option to automatically replace "bad" words, and "porn" doesn't appear to be one of them. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but you might want to take a look at this Admin post which tells about special formatting for what you write, which uses asterisks.

I would love if the categories could be tweaked a bit. In place of Random & Silly, I'd have a Just for Fun category, which could include 'getting to know you' type quiz questions and other randomness. We need a category for books, music and movies, one unambiguously separate from the philosophy oriented categories. Really Life and Meaning seems to be as much a philosophy category heading as Religion and Spirituality. If this site is too focused, in every category, on rehashing basic theosophical and philosophical questions, folks who just want to hang out with like-minded people will just go back to facebook. For the most part, people joining a site called agnostic.com are already self-selected to be agnostic or atheist, and if we were Baptists or all Jewish, sure there'd be some theological discussion, some ego stroking, etc., but there'd also be a lot of just general chatting about topics having nothing to do with God, gods, or churches.
And, it would be great if there was a visual indicator on or around our profile pictures or something that would indicate whether we are or are not interested in finding dates. Many women I know would be wary of joining a site like this for fear of being pestered by too many lonely, single men. Right now it is not terribly easy for users to see at a glance whether such attention would be welcome. I, for instance, am NOT looking for a date, and any poor men who miss that detail may find I am less friendly than I ought to be. If folks like me had a red border around our profile pics, or something obvious like that, anyone could see that we are just here for friendly companionship, not dating, and they could direct their romantic attentions where they might be less frostily received.

Awesome ideas! I've been thinking about 2 modes for the site dating and forum. Feedback I'm getting from some dating/personals people is that it's too forum-heavy now. I like your idea of a "I'm open to dating" icon on the small photos. I'll try some tweaks to the categories too 🙂

Ok, I added "Movies, Movies & Books" and added "Fun" to "Silly & Random" (a compromise).

That works for me, thanks. 🙂 Yeah, I suspect that for the folks who want a dating site, the conversations so far would be frustrating. Most women I know (and myself) would rather meet people and chat, and if we meet someone who becomes a romantic partner later, that's cool but not the priority for joining or participating in a site like this. It will be interesting to see how the dating site/social site conundrum works out over time here.

Regarding Following
I would like to have the option of following someone's comments (i.e. receive an alert whenever someone I follow makes a comment) and even replies (i.e. receive an alert whenever someone I follow makes a reply). Again, just as options, or levels of following.

Might consider making it a website-only alert so now to affect our email deliverability. Priorities.

@Admin Sounds good to me.

Looking for my 100 points for new member...'Dwizzle?' (Sent from Web forward page)

I doesn't appear that that member used the referral link.

@Admin I sent the referral from that page, myself! Maybe I did not do it correctly!

Has ‘log out’ been removed for iPhone, or just moved somewhere ?

skado Level 9 Jan 18, 2018

Ah, it was moved to under "My Account" in drop down menu at the top of the page.

@Admin ?

@skado whoops, forgot. It's there now 🙂

@Admin Thanks!

In some instances, when I try to type a message usually a reply to someone, the window drops down and I can’t see what I’m typing. When I’m finished and hit done, it pops back up. It’s really hard to make corrections that way.

I'm probably alone in this, but when I joined this community I saw nothing that suggested it was a dating sight. I did find that out later, and stayed even though I'm happily married. I like the sight because I've tried several other atheist/agnostic discussion boards that turned out not to interest me. There are some cool folks on this sight that I enjoy hearing opinions from on different topics. Some I would even like to sit down and talk to, but maybe there should be a badge or something for people who are just here for community, so it doesn't look like we're here for something else.

Admin,

Just wanted to let you know that older posts seem to be disappearing from the feed. They're clearly still in the system because at the top of the thread the number of comments listed is correct, but the number which actually appears in the thread doesn't match up.

Add Nihilist to the list of philosophies to identify with, please.
