Being a cat person, this writer always loves hearing about people's fluffy feline companions. When a pet's a local celebrity who brings joy to everyone he or she meets, it makes things all the merrier.

Meet Daniel the hardware shop cat. He hangs out at Shoppers True Value Hardware in South Portland, Maine.

According to this News Center Maine article, Shoppers True Value Hardware has been a community staple for 50+ years, having first opened back in 1955. The shop has remained in the same family ever since, and one of its employees, Daniel, just happens to have four legs and a tail.

The article explains that the lovable kitty not only delights customers who enter the store, but has helped his owners through "personal hardships." When in the shop, five-year-old Daniel can be found hanging out on the paint counter and donning a special bowtie, according to the Portland Press Herald. He also likes sitting with Tom Simpson (father of store owner Jessica Simpson) as he sips his morning coffee.
