How long have you lived outside the USA?

Newspapers do missinform their readers about the reputation of the US overseas, generally to get the country to bomb some more countries to gain 'respect'.

It doesn't actually work that way.

@jorj This country was in decent shape when Obama left compared to the train wreck that the last bunch of Republicans left it in. If you pull your head out of your ass and watch something besides Fox news you could see it and all the other shitty things he's done in the past year. Donald Trump is a walking disease on humanity.

Hi jorj: I agree about the war mongering.

Just before the invasion of Iraq I rejected the prediction that 'they will welcome us with open arms' and that we were going to save Iraq, firstly on the basis of the same promises being made and then broken in Afghanistan.

And that if we really thought some people needed help and we wanted to help then we would be helping those in dire need in Sub Saharan Africa.

Anyone who ignored those obvious points, and there were others, would have convincing evidence after the first few months of war.

So I see a difference between those who initially voted for war and those who persevered beyond the first few months and stayed with their original opinion rather than realising it was wrong.

Hillary continued staunchly supporting the war as the body count continued to climb month after month for five years. She really is someone we don't need.

There's a very long history behind this, whereas German propaganda during the war was built around lies, British propaganda which was brought to the US just before it entered WW1, was what in 6 months turned public opinion around to joining WW1 and was built equally effective but difficult to disprove.

It managed to engage the emotions without significant use of lies, and it is still like that.

Criticism I've heard the pubic make of Donald Trump is like that, lots of emotion, very light on anything factual. I've never heard direct disagreement, let alone with good reason, of his core policy shift away from Presidents Reagan to Obama which is to finally abandon neoliberal policy.

As with is single payer medical policy he will no doubt be opposed by Congress and most likely achieve very little, for which of course he will be justly criticised.

@jorj They have an obligation to follow the evidence, wherever it leads. It's not about the "left". The "left" have nothing to do with the investigation. Mueller is a republican. I find it interesting how when he was first named, there was nothing but support for him. The republicans couldn't stop singing his praises as an honest man, and a good person to lead the investigation.
Besides, it isn't just the left that detest 45. He also didn't "win", he exploited a number of loopholes. There is no legitimate reason that we have to tolerate him. He can, and should, be removed.
