14 House Republicans Voted Against Making Juneteenth A Federal Holiday
The bill recognizes June 19, 1865, the day when Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger led soldiers to
Galveston, Texas, to deliver the message that the Union had won the war and the ending of slavery would be enforced.
While the Senate voted unanimously in favor of the holiday, 14 House members — all Republicans — voted against the bill, many citing concerns over the name of the holiday and whether it conflates with the July 4th holiday.
Those 14 House members are:
Of course they did and of course they aren't racist too
Exactly. I can think of no good reason to be against this
Not surprising considering the response to MLK day.
Many of the segregationists made up a BS story about how they objected to the name of the holiday. However, their backgrounds are similar, coming from white conservative christian southern parts of the country. Not hard to guess what their true motives are.
Now let’s make sure these assholes get a strong Democrat to run against them and kick their sorry asses out of Congress!
