Is there Left and Right inside Democrats as well &
what is the general position of Democrats Party, is it Center-right?
In my opinion , the Democratic party has a big tent [tutor2u.net] that can be divided into remnants of three historical tendencies . 1. Transplanted Rockefeller Republicans [rationalwiki.org] , 2 . Liberal party [en.m.wikipedia.org] , and 3 . American Labor party [en.m.wikipedia.org] .
Younger people will eventually push the Democratic Party much farther left. Unfortunately there comes A time in everyone's life cycle where they don't have much time to be an activist because of other responsibilities. I fear many of the young far-left Democrats that made a difference in 2016 may be reaching that time in their life. Hopefully that will be balanced by the disappearance of lots of older folks.
Fortunately those younger people will eventually rule and they all accept the liberal views on homosexuality, abortion, race and other lifestyle choices. That takes away the right's weapons against the left.
i don't agree with everyone who has responded. i think most democrats are farther left than nondemocrats and even some democrats suspect. are they as leftwing as i am? hardly anyone is lol. but they are more liberal than they look, and some of that is because some democrats bravely ran and won in red states, but are still stuck representing their constituents. being voted out would be disastrous for those constituents, who (from their habitual voting records and public attitudes do NOT always or even usually vote in their own best interest). such democrats have to compromise more than democrats who come from liberal states. that doesn't make the former less liberal; it makes them more cautious. i am not talking about someone like joe manchin, who really is center-right, if not worse. i am talking about someone like ex-senator claire mccaskill, who is a wonderful person and had to balance where she came from with what she believed, not as a cop-out but in order to keep doing good. as for the majority of democratic public servants, they are definitely not ANYTHING right, center or otherwise. the majority of democratic voters nationwide are left of center to varying degrees.
don't be fooled by how the elections come out either: rightwingers have gerrymandered many states to death. there are states where the voters repeatedly vote for democrats and end up with republicans due to gerrymandering. the fact that democrats get into congress at all, not to mention took over the house this past election, is a tribute to how much farther left the people are than they appear to be.
g
most democrats are just right imo! republicans are extreme right
The majority of Americans are centrists leaning left or right. Some are socially liberal and fiscal conservatives.
Thanks, and Bernice Sanders must be the leftest MP in Democrats
@Noor92 Yes and Biden is left of center.
@Charlene He really didn't fail. If he had not gotten the ACA passed we might have gone decades without change, now they have to deal with it. McConnell derailed Obama. He wouldn't even bring things to the floor he was for because he didn't want Obama to get credit. There are good billionaires just not enough of them. Just like all poor people aren't good or bad either.
@Sticks48 the 1% are sucking the life out the country, adding to the National debt, tax cuts that drain our reserves which helps in deterioration of national infrastructure, cuts to education and research that hinders our technological advancement...so No Billionaires Are Not Nice People..
@dan325 But it does work. In the late sixties we thought the same thing. Then people got jobs, and wives, and kids, and mortgages. A lot of liberals head toward the center when they start making money. Like you I am hopeful the younger people will turn the tide, but they ain't in charge yet. The Boomers are.Time will tell. Clinton had to deal with Gingrich and DeLay. What exactly did Clinton do that bothers you so much?
@dan325 He knew a global economy was the best way to stop wars. You don't blow up people with which you are economically interdependent. If you don't get with the program, you get left out and your economy will suffer much worse down the road. Deregulation is almost always bad, but is often used in the deal making process, and that proved to be a mistake. Trade deals like NAFTA were good. NAFTA slowed down the number of people coming in from Mexico because it created jobs in Mexico. If you want to slow down the corporations moving offices and manufacturing overseas, you do that with taxes. That is on the Congress, not the President. When the House, which controls the purse strings is in the hands of the Republicans, they will always do their best to force deals that cut into social programs. Give me the name of a President you have liked in our lifetime.
I always wonder if there is such a thing as a fiscal conservative. What does that mean when our defense dept has carte Blanche to spend anything it wants to and not account for any if it?
You're from India; and a native Afghani. You might want to tell us the opinions of the people in your community. How do you "see" the American position?
Thank you for wanting to "fight" terrorism....but remember; the pen, and the words typed...are mightier than the sword....
Is it related to the question?
BTW I am internationalist I don't believe in country, it is just boundary limitation made by human, limiting myself to specific boundary makes me fanatics and racist that I don't want to be, I see myself part of this beautiful Earth, a tiny ball in vast universe.
@Noor92 It's related to the question because you're asking about American politics, but you say you're not from nor in America. I'm just wondering why you're asking.
I concur; it's good to be an internationalist/globalist. I'm just wondering what the politics are like in your neck of the woods?
@Robecology Why do I ask question?!
Seriously?
I mean I shouldn't?
You should be happy that someone shows interest and ask questions and wants to learn, Idon't know why it bothers you, it is a socialists group and here I posted questions not only about America but also about other countries like European countries as well, we can't say oh u r not from there and u can't talk about it either...if it is this way then why does Fox news sometimes talk about Afghanistan?
Take it easy and breath, the world is not going to end
the older democrats seem to be right of moderate and the younger ones leaning further left of center.
If the last primary election is accurate reflection of where the party is 52% is center right and 48% is far left. Oklahoma Democrats are interestingly 60% far left.
thats because the oklahoma democrats are a younger group.
@JeffMesser I agree the majority of Bernie supporters were twenty and Thirty somethings. However they were also a lot of us old lefties who helped organize and worked for Bernie.
