Oh please! K-12 history education is a joke designed to indoctrinate good little patriotic worker bees. If you do any study of the public school system you will see it. It wasn’t only the black history that was suppressed but woman’s history, labor movement history, etc., anything that put the white male patriarchy and power structure in a bad light.

Helen Keller history was not taught beyond the basics of The Miracle Worker. Keller was a prolific author, writing 14 books and hundreds of speeches and essays on topics ranging from animals to Mahatma Gandhi.[1] Keller campaigned for those with disabilities, for women’s suffrage, labor rights, and world peace. She joined the Socialist Party of America in 1909. She was a supporter of the NAACP and an original member of the American Civil Liberties Union. I didn’t learn any of that until I was in college.

Refusing to learn actual history beyond the white washed version we were taught up to 1980 and maybe beyond (my experience in public schools ended in 1977) is the most telling sign of white guilt and the driving force for systemic racism.
