Do introverts use alcohol to open up more?
Alcohol has a psychological effect of reducing inhibitions, which allows people with introverted temperaments to feel more at ease during social or individual interactions. Having said that, being an introvert does not necessary mean that the person will use alcohol to open up..
I like the taste of most adult beverages. I do not like to get drunk, considering I have a VERY high tolerance for alcohol.
Seems I like drinks with more sugar than alcohol - like Bailey's, Kahlua, etc.
I like the sour and salty flavor of margaritas
I mostly just drink like everyone else, to have a relaxing treat with a meal. But I don't drink much.
I definitely have used alcohol to calm myself and lower my inhibitions in social settings. Also, I work as a substance abuse counselor and many of my clients are introverts and/or have social anxiety. It's difficult to work with.
I prefer not drinking in social situations. If I get drunk, it's harder to make my escape and go home.
