You mom must be pretty tough! Or maybe the way you tell her about work she knows going out with "co-worker" would be a big mistake. [Don't worry, I "get" it. Interesting though that another way of interpreting it is that "mom" is your partner and for the right co-worker, you're in an open relationship. 8) ]

@Justme43 @eyesthatsmile Or, if you really don't want to socialize with the co-worker, reply with "I don't think my <wife/husband - pick the one who's gender is opposite the co-worker> implying your sexuality is different from co-worker.
In reality, I believe the best reply retains your autonomy and is truthful - something like "I've heard stories about intra-office relationships that became total dumpster fires so I never socialize with co-workers."
