Anyone any idea why all my brassicas have gone pretty much straight to seed? Purple broccoli, cauliflowers and worst, sprouts. Now I need to fess up and admit I planted late in the season last year...but they overwintered fine, have started growing again - and missed the key bit! Flowers everywhere...
Thoughts?
Often happens when plants are not harvested at the right time or at all. When the weather warms many plants bolt early.
@OwlInASack A lot of edible turn very bitter when the plant bolts. Learned that the hard way.
@OwlInASack Sometimes at an early stage one can add salt to the plant, let it sit a while and rinse it off. The salt draws out the bitterness. Some things like Eggplant are naturally bitter so it is recommended to slice it, salt it and then rinse it.
I'm growing my Cauliflower and Broccoli seedlings for transplanting right now. I will transplant them to the garden 2 weeks after the danger of frost is passed. Why not let these ones go to seed but replant if you are past the threat of frost, which you probably already are?
Sounds like you will have plenty of seeds for planting, looking on the bright side.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
