Winter experiment.
Our Mailbox Wildlife Habitat. There are now three Yucca plants thriving there. This year I harvested some seeds after they flowered. Research indicates it can take a month to a year for seeds to sprout. Following the rather unusual instructions..... We'll see what develops.

Where do you get the seeds? I have 3 Yucca's and one blossomed wonderfully. The next day I found a deer had the blooms for dinner.

Jack!
The seeds are from the flowers. Sounds like the deer got them.

@bigpawbullets Apparently they know plants with seeds. I found a Poppy plant growing from some gravel and was told it is the kind that makes opium. I was supposed to wait until the seed head reached a certain stage before harvesting the seeds. One evening I noticed the seed head was ready and the next morning was going to harvest it. Nope, the deer beat me to it.

@JackPedigo
Sneaky bastards. The chipmunks & birds do exactly that to my tomatoes.

If memory serves , I believe the native Indians used the root as a vegetable , much like a yam or sweet potato and you could also dig up those roots to separate them and start new plants that way , as well .

Yeah. Im reluctant to tear up our garden there. Its finally self sustaining without weeding.

What a pleasant spot to collect your mail, and I bet your postie appreciates it, also!

Lots of "creatures" enjoy it too.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
