I couldn’t let the frost kill the basil in my mother’s garden, so I cut the plants and have them in water. I think I need to make pesto, and lots of it, right away. Sorry about the sideways pic.

Looking at the picture makes me wonder if it's sideways because it won't fit vertically?

Get rid of the flowers and stocks, make pesto and freeze it in ice cube trays, that way you have portions that are easy to use.
