2.61 inches of rain yesterday. Predictions are for rain the next few days. Gardening projects moving indoors. Linda's co-worker with a hobby farm provides everyone in their accounting practice with pears from his trees. I think they are Bradford, but they could be an heirloom variety as his farm is one of the originals in the Miami Valley. The trees are probably 30+ years old and way beyond useful commercial production. Great team building activitiy for their office though, picking produce.
We're peeling, coring, chopping up, and rendering down pears today for jam and pie making use.

I put in one pear tree in my orchard last year and one this year hope to have pears in a few more.

It's like tomatoes. Allowed to ripen on the branch is like having a different fruit compared to the ones in the store.

@bigpawbullets I have no idea that that is even possible here, our season is just , too short.

@HeathenFarmer
Depends a lot on the kind of pear. You are pushing the envelope, so to speak. I hope it works.

Did you happen to see my post in the "food glorious food" group? "Venison" is a secret code word amongst us conservatives.

@bigpawbullets You wish to grind me up & put my remains in your chili? Bambi as food?

@Countrywoman
Ha! Not you. You're old, and tough.

@bigpawbullets And difficult to bag.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
