Returned from our trip to find an ice storm did a number on our poor willow trees. Just now got outside to prune them. What a disaster. We planted these years ago and have enjoyed watching them grow and move gracefully in the summer breezes. I hope they eventually fill out again:

Willows have wonderful powers of recovery, probably better than any other trees, they will come back very quickly.

On the bright side you can stick a small cut limb in the ground and start another tree. Willows are easy like that. A lot of trees are.

That does appear to be some bad damage to your trees. When we lived in Utah years sgo, we had an early snow that was wet and heavy. Plenty of the trees still had leaves that had not yet fallen. A neighbor's tree (don't recall what kind it was) split almost down the middle and half the tree lay across their drive. The trunk was a good size like 2 feet in diameter. It must have been a softer wood tree to collapse like that.

Wow! That had to be a pretty bad icing event. I still have limbs to get cut up in my yard. Looks like you have a good crew? 😉

Two elders, a ladder, and chain saw. We're both medicating the aches and pains with old vine zinfandel.
😉

@bigpawbullets Ah good choices! It will be mostly Ibuprofen here - and the Spring I imagine - it's all snow covered now that I have some help. 😉

I'm sorry. I guess they can be used for something else, at least fertilizer.

The leaves get mulched into our
garden beds. The trunks will go to my neighbor for fire pit fuel.

Man, that's just awful, very sorry to hear it. 😟

Thanks Pirate. We're hoping they'll come back.

Would suggest a few fertilizer takes in the spring at each .

Good idea. I normally do that to all the trees/evergreens.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
