Garden Report: Picked Cherry Tomatoes and Beets to eat and quite a lot of Romaine, which I gave to the neighbors. The unusually cold nights last week, down to freezing, have caused a few problems. I think my sweet potato plant may be done for and it is not looking good for the larger tomatoes. 1. Beets 2. Cherry Tomatoes. 3. Romaine and Tom Thumb Lettuces. 4. Spinach. 5. Beets. 6. Little Gem Lettuce. 7. Was supposed to be Endive, but turned out to be Arugula. 8. Flat Leaf Parsley. 9. Cilantro/Coriander. 10. Rosemary

Beautiful. Our growing season ends in Aug. A little later for cool weather crops. A lot later for cannabis : ))

I must hide it away pretty well.

What no carrots? Must be nice to grow tomatoes in the winter.

@MissKathleen Go ahead rub it in. We have trouble growing some varieties even in the summer without some sort of hoop house. There are lots of micro-climates here and some farms can grow tomatoes, green peppers and everything that requires heat but not in my area,

@MissKathleen Maybe you should think about becoming a snow bird?

@MissKathleen Funny you should ask. We have a lot of vacation homes here (45%) and often the owners rent the homes when they are absent. Renters have to vacate the homes when the owners return (often in the summer) and have to find another place to live. We received an inquiry from a woman that asked just that - to camp out in the back yard for a month.
Sure, and you can help with the planting and harvesting.

@MissKathleen You mentioned a Connie and Chuck. Those are the names of a couple here that are also a part of the travel group Servas.

@MissKathleen Funny coincidence. Should we call you sunny? Still, I could always use help in the garden. I often get visitors because of the travel group (and it is free). When women stay with, me I or they go into a loft I have built over the garage. It's a nice comfortable place and I often go there just for a change.

@MissKathleen Sorry, just a joke. I have 2 bedrooms but I do not any woman to feel the slightest uncomfortable so I move up. A friend, who works on San Juan Island often comes to Lopez for a visit and she knows she has carte blanc to stay in the loft , and she does. Climate controlled? It is well insulated and, here, in the evenings it is always cool. I open the window to the room and the door to the attic (with an open window) and it cools off. During the day I shut everything and it stays cool (remember it only gets into the 70's here). In winter a simple timer controlled oil filled heater provides ample heat. Should I attach a pic. lol?

@MissKathleen It's an invitation. I do get strange(rs) people visiting here and staying with me. I enjoy the company and showing off the islands.

@MissKathleen LOL, Noo I would never do that? Besides strange people can often be the most fun. We are all strange in our own way. Yes, keep in touch.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
