I should start using this method. With Garlic I take and plant the individual cloves and they take. I plant garlic in the fall and they grow during the winter.
To continue that onion's growth you're going to have to transplant to a wider pot with looser soil...and drainage. Go for it!
You know, I can't grow onions for shit! Oh, i can stick them in the dirt and i can get nice, tall green leaves(?) but when it is all said and done, what I pull out of the ground is not significantly different than what I put in. I finally gave up.
I have the same problem, so I just chop the leaves and let it go at that.
