A few impulse photos from the garden the other day: Rosa "Grande Amore," Zinnia from seed, a baby fuschia from this spring's local Ag Center garden show, and a dahlia also from seed this spring. Last but most exciting to me, a Monarch butterfly coming in for a landing on one of the many milkweeds I just planted this spring. I counted at least 6 Monarchs laying eggs all in the same morning. Yay! Here's hoping some of the babies survive.

I haven't yet. The yellow butterflies that look similar to monarchs have been aplenty here in New England USA.

I imagine Summer is barely getting started for you. Here it has been hot since early May but nicely warm since mid-March. I have to embrace and enjoy spring for all it is worth, because July and Augusy are brutally hot and humid here. We really have two peak gardening seasons...March thru May and again all of October and most of November. Second half of summer we just try dilligently to keep everything hydrated enough to survive. Thay means, in the case of roses, a modest pruning the first of September to help spur a good fall flush.
Gorgeous flowers and I love the butterfly.

I love watching how butterflies move about. They really ARE the "jewels of the garden."
