Picked my first heirloom black tomatoes of the season today -- 4 full sized, 5 plum sized! Will have a nice salad for dinner tonight.

Most of my potatoes have already popped through the surface of my garden here in Florida , and I have my first tomato blossoms of the year.

Tonight my spring garden of tomatoes and potatoes are in the ground, mulch in all of the rows and paths, and cages installed around my tomato plants. I am still eating tomatoes left over from my winter garden.

Have spaded up the soil for my spring garden, laid out raised rows, and fertilized. Will have tomato plants and seed potatoes in the ground by Friday, at the latest.

Here In Tampa, Florida,Am enjoying BLTs and salads made with heirloom black tomatoes from my winter garden. Thy are delicious - even seem to taste better than my spring tomatoes do.

Over the past 2 and 1.2 years, I have sent seeds for black heirloom tomatoes to a number of people on our site. If you received such seeds from me and grew tomato plants, how did you like the taste?

Attached is a picture of my tomato plants today. They grew to almost 10 feet tall then fell over and formed a canopy between the rows. The tallest now are still between 8 and 9 feet tall.

Hooray! I picked my first black heirloom tomato of the season today! We are going to have a couple of tasty salads this week.

Dug my first potatoes yesterday. Last night I cut up a bunch of the smaller ones into thin slices, chopped up part of an onion, and pan fried that in olive oil, with salt and pepper. It was delicious.

Had my first green beans from my garden this spring with cornbread yesterday. Picked another 2 - 3 pounds this afternoon.

Will e picking my first green beans of the year this afternoon. Tomorrow, will have a meal of green beans cooked with bacon and hot skillet cornbread with a crunchy crust. Already anticipating the meal.
