Not necessarily. When we're children, yes, and by getting it back from others we learn healthy ways to give it to ourselves -- so that when we meet up with other people we can give it from within instead of it being a needy gesture based on emptiness. Then we can also recognize it from others.

I guess that depends on the level of self-esteem a person has. It absolutely helps when there is another in which each can help the other in validating their self-worth. It should be a give and take situation.

Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, ones love for another is based on subjective and arbitrary personality qwerks. I know my worth, yet only when someone expresses their love for me can I understand my worth to them.

I disagree... Self esteem contradicts this... Feeling good about yourself does not require other people...

This should read '...his or HER own beauty..'; Yes, I absolutely agree...this speaks of one's humility in self, not boasting or being egotistical or prideful...while valuing that significant other's assessment, and worthy of love.

There's a lot of truth in that statement. I agree love is reflective/reflected.
