The private meeting seems in order, though he might be one of those who flatly refuses to allow himself to be educated on the subject. If he makes it clear that is indeed the case, I suppose you could point out that he is either ignorant or flat out rude, and of the two choices, ignorant is at least fixable. Intentionally rude is an asshole worthy of being blocked from your life. Good luck!
