28 May 2019 - Diet Diary - Well, I am officially on a binge. Thought I had it settled as I was very controlled on Sunday but yesterday went high and today is also high, likely near 1500. When control goes, so does the ability to track calories carefully. I hit 1200 but I'm sure I missed some things which seemed to almost leap from the fridge/cupboard, into my hands then my mouth. The urge to eat was almost irresistible today. I would tell myself, "STOP EATING" then 10 minutes later I would be checking the fridge for something else to snack on. I DO NOT like the feeling of being out of control but that doesn't make resuming control any easier.

Been there, done that. In fact;hungry and tempted now....but I'm already at my peak for today; and I know if I nibble one more thing I'm over..and no weight loss tomorrow.

I think it helps us to write about it...kind of a public "confession" so we motivate ourselves a bit, and get support....even from strangers.

But please; do realize that it's at that baby stage; the stage of that child in the image, above; where our diet habits start.

yep; before we could walk and talk - our time to snack...and what to snack on - were ingrained in to our brains.

So we have to be gentle on ourselves...disciplined....but gentle. This is a long, tough battle to fight. It is "battling obesity"

I agree, it is helpful to write about the struggles and the successes in this battle. It helps to get some feedback from others on things shared but even when there are no comments, the public posting serves a purpose, promoting self-awareness of my own behavior and creating accountability for my successes or failure.

I know how deeply rooted our habits, good and bad, are in our upbringing. I experienced some very early neglect with some nutritional deficiency by the time my paternal grandmother got care/custody of me. She was very devoted to me, I was, for her, the embodiment of the only daughter born to her, the child she lost at 7 years old to scarlet fever. She committed herself to making up for my poor start and feeding me well was a big part of that. It remains a serious struggle for me to not go directly to food when I am upset, frustrated, sick or sad.

Would you believe, when I have been ill, I absolutely crave milk-toast. Lovely buttered, sugared toast with warm milk poured over it. Amazing how few people react positively to the mention of milk-toast but for me, it is like having someone feel my forehead and stroke my hair. Those entrenched connections to food are not easily broken. They can be contained though, I'm down 60 pounds and that took containing many of those attachments to food so I will continue to do battle and I'm confident that in the end, I will win.

@DotLewis

Down 60 pounds....now THAT'S good will-power. Keep it up! Thanks for the story about "milk toast" I've heard of it but never knew it was such a thing!

I had a high of 160; But I gave most of those clothes away...so I don't dare slip back to even near that weight. Shooting for the 130's....

BTW...lost 0.4 pounds...(146.4) so going to bed hungry worked a bit....but I have to have a better day.

Fish stir fry on the menu for tonight. No breading, no rice, no pasta; just lots of veggies, a dash of EVOO, and a slab of fish.

Yogurt with fruit and a small amount of high-fiber cereal (with some tiny bits of chocolate for my addiction in it) for lunch.

..that's the food plan for today!

@Robecology No real plan for today, had salad, melba toast(?) with jelly, coffee with creamer and apple chips and at 2:30pm, I'm at 176 calories. Rest of the day won't go that well but maybe can keep to the low side today. Making a batch of "Slaw-ghetti" tomorrow . Put shredded cabbage in the crockpot, pour a can/jar of spaghetti sauce over, add meatballs, etc. if desired and cook. Tastes surprisingly like pasta. Drooling!

Don't beat yourself up about it. It happens to all of us and you will get back on track. Was there anything specific that triggered it? Could it be anything to do with the fact that you have almost reached your goal? Or an emotional crisis of some sort?

Posted by DotLewis7 March 2020 - Diet Diary - Been quiet around here lately. I've not been on vacation, just keeping a low profile and trying to stay on top of things. Are those things incompatible?
