Since it wasn't CS gas, they thought they were technically correct, but the Geneva convention includes all classes of tear inducing, mucus membrane irritating gases as tear gas. Whoever issued that statement should be exposed to all three of the gases and see if they can tell the difference.

As someone who went through "the gas chamber" during training for the Marines I agree....

First time I've heard a tear gas canister called a "semantic"! Those things by whatever name cause nasty damage to flesh, bones & eyes.
